Title: Falling Stars
Rating: PG, Angst
Summary: The war's finished, the good guys won, and it's time to live. Wouldn’t it be lovely if that were true?
Falling Stars, Part 1
Had Severus’s reflexes been even a second slower, the wizarding
world would have lost it’s latest hero. Instead, without pausing to think,
Severus roared ‘Immobillus’ and froze even the air surrounding Potter so that
the child hung over the edge of the tower– staring at the ground below. As his
heart lurched in panic, Severus rushed forward grabbing the boy and
pulling him back in.
Part 2
A suddenly sickening thought struck them both at once. What if they
hadn’t convinced, Harry? What if he hadn’t trusted them? Hermione
began to sway weakly, even as she heard the Headmistress urging,
“Hurry Severus, Hurry. He’s on the roof of the Astronomy tower.”
Part 3
Flitwick was guiding him away – totally misinterpreting his surprise
as distress. For almost a minute, Severus was tempted to startle the tiny
man with a derisive smile at the unsolicited compassion, but if it helped him
get away sooner, he could play the distraught mentor.
Part 4
This notice is to inform you that, as of twelve midnight, on this day,
under the 3rd square of Mars and Saturn, I formally tender my resignation
of the position of Potions Instructor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft
and Wizardry. After twenty-two years of gainful employment, the
exigencies of war have made returning to the classroom inconceivable.
Part 5
“He was willing to simply throw his life away on a single interpretation
of a prophesy? How dim is this child?” Chuckling at her mildly irreverent
wit and amused that she’d make a comment like that about the cherished
boy-who-lived, Severus stared at his diminutive wife, feeling somehow relieved
that she had not falsely improved her appearance in the intervening years.
Part 6
“I killed off the Snapes, Mom. That’s all. At the manor and here. No more
Snapes ... anywhere. Poof. They’re gone.” Something in her slurred voice
sounded off to Severus as he bent over the table gasping at the pain
in his stomach.
Part 7
“Yeah, I cleared it all. She had a lot more than he did, but I didn’t let go
until I was sure the poison was out of both of their systems. As long as it
didn’t cause any other damage, it should be okay.” Mr. Potter turned
reassuringly to her and swayed as he nodded. “Harry!” The young… healer,
judging by his familiarity with healing spells and techniques jumped
forward and caught his friend.
Part 8
De-aging! Potion De-aging – no less! Not only illegal – after it was used in the
last war to help numerous Death Eaters escape justice for their crimes- but bloody
dangerous as well. Beyond the inherent danger in many of the materials used -just
tailoring the absorption to the recipient’s digestive pattern’s is ruddy difficult-
not to mention, balancing it against the recipient’s magical core.
Part 9
“No, he’s not ill…” Neville’s voice dropped to a tight, half-swallowed
whisper, “At the moment, he’s trying to survive the effects of dragon’s
blood poisoning. He’s descending into more pain than I can even imagine,
and he’s got a very small chance of coming out of it.
Part 10
"...The greater and purer a wizard’s magics – the longer his body resists
the burn – the longer the torture he suffers.”
pale and finally finished, asking: “I wonder, Celeste, if you can think of anyone
living whose magics are greater or purer than Mr. Potter’s?”
Part 11
Behind her scowl, Severus watched her eyes snap as she made one
connection after another until the deep creases between her brows
pinched then smoothed letting him know that she…
Juliette groaned before she turned and started back down the hall.
Part 12
A brief grin curled her lips as she nodded, watching in amusement
as they turned to study Potter’s countenance.
look a great deal more like his father than I would have expected him to –
given the circumstances.” ...
gaunt features that further accentuated the addition of Severus’s easily
recognizable lips and nose – right down to the thick bump of
cartilage at the ridge of his nose.
